Well the [failed] message goes away when I unchecked the option to start
at boot time, but it still won't work. When I hit activate in Network
Configuration,
PCMCIA activates the device, so there should be no need to do it manually.
What does ifconfig say after you boot?
alias eth0 xirc2ps_cs
in /etc/modprobe.conf is necessary to avoid conflict with pcmcia socket driver.
Do that and either reboot, or try rmmod xirc2ps_cs service pcmcia restart
