vfat unicode characters are not valid. every unicode is displayed as "?". thats the real strange thing..
Maybe instead codepage=...,iocharset=... you should use utf8 option? It works at least with Polish characters on vfat partitions and LANG="pl_PL.UTF-8". I haven't checked this with cifs :/
I've got something like this:
/dev/hda10 /mnt/mp3 vfat auto,user,quiet,ro,uid=0,gid=100,dmask=0002,fmask=0113,utf8,nodev,noexec,nosuid 0 0
