I would have expected that the additional mount option do help. There is
the "uni_xlate=yes" option too, which might be useful if the vfat
partition is handled by Windows[tm] 2000/XP. See for short explanations

If all does not help you should check bugzilla for reports about that
topic and in case there is no bug report so far file one yourself.
