Looks like your installation is confused as to whether it should use
ide-scsi for the CD-ROM. Take the hdc=ide-scsi out of the kernel command
line in grub.conf, reboot, and see if that helps.

When you come to burn CDs, you may need to reconfigure
/etc/cdrecord.conf to include something like this:

# drive name    device          speed   fifosize driveropts
#
cdrw=           /dev/cdrom      -1      -1      burnfree
