Alright, I managed to make the sound work.

Here's what I did:

1. Removed all instances of snd_emu10k1 from /etc/modprobe.conf
2. Rebooted
3. Manually loaded the snd_emu10k1 module using $>/sbin/modprobe snd_emu10k1

Now, the questions is, how do I automatically load a module at boot
time? I can't seem to find modules.conf. Any idea?
