Hi folks,

Fedora Core 2
(upgrade from RH 8.0)
HPdeskjet 690C
KDE desktop

Printing had no problem before upgrade. After upgrade
printing does not work.

Tests performed as follows;

1) Text Dorcument - Simple Text Editor
File --> Print --> Printer Name
in the droplist window
HP_deskjet_690C
----
Mail pdf file
Print to file (PDF)
Print to file (Postscript)
Send fo Fax

All were there as before upgrade.

Selected HP_deskjet_690C --> Print
No response. The 'Print window' closed but the printer
did not print.

2) OpenOffice Write Doc.
(OpenOffice 1.1.2)
K_Start --> OpenOffice.org_1.1.2 -->
OpenOffice.org_Printer_Admin
ony Generic Printer (Default printer) was there

--> Properties -- under Command_tab -> lpr -P
"HP_Deskjet_690C" --> OK --> Close

File --> Print -->
on Printer_Name droplist window
<HP_deskjet_690C>
Generic printer
Both of them were there

A)
--> sekected <HP_deskjet_690C> ---> OK
(Type SGENPRT)
(Location HP_Deskjet_690C)
no response, the 'Print window' close but the printer
did not print

B)
--> Generic Printer --> OK
(Status Default printer)
(Type SGENPRT)
the Print Window closed but no response. The printer
did not print.

K_Start --> System Settings --> More System Settings
--> Printer system switcher
To start Redhat-switch-printer window

under ?Available printing sytem?
tbe button of ?CUPS? already checked permanently
(only CUPS, no other selections)
I was not allowed to uncheck the botton.

Furthermore I run "yum update" daily.

Remark:
Neither the printer nor the Printer/Para-port has
problem. This PC has another mobile HD running WinXP.
Printing has no problem)

Kindly advise how to test the printer communcation and
fix the problem

TIA

B.R.
Stephen Liu
