It is iptables (your machines firewall) that is blocking your
connections.

For samba you will need to open up the following ports:

137:UDP
138:UDP
139:TCP
445:TCP

I am not sure of the ports needed by gaim, I think it would vary
depending on which of the instant messaging services you are using.  

Under FC1 you will need to modify the /etc/sysconfig/iptables file to
include lines that permit the above ports.
