Not the least of which is that sorting doesn't work "properly" to my mind in UTF-8.

Eg., files named apple, Banana, orange, and .plum will be sorted as follows:

UTF-8 (Wrong!):

apple
Banana
orange
.plum


C: (Correct)

.plum
Banana
apple
orange


Setting LC_COLLATE=C fixes that though. ;-)
