OpenOffice does a decent job on basic PDF files, but I've not been able to
get it to make a tagged PDF. If you need a document that needs to go on a
handheld, I don't think it will do the job. When I've tried, my Palm
software simply declares OO-created files as corrupted and stops processing
it.

In addition, in a few cases, people who read my documents have sometimes had
difficulty using them with genuine Adobe software, like Acrobat Reader. It
hasn't been a very big problem, but I've had to rewrite files in a few cases
using Windows software to get things to work. PDFs that work fine on my
system appear skewed on other machines.

Test with different kinds of documents, fonts and graphics to make sure you
don't hit any snags.
