Mine is a PSC-2110,check you have the hpijs and hpoj rpm's installed you'll find them via yum/apt or the install disks.The printer is an HP PSC 750 connected to the computer by a USB cable. I have tried to start the printsetup via a terminal and no joy there either. I do not know enough about .conf files to set it up manually. I have used other distributions with no problem. I am trying FC2 to try it out.

Then for KDE printing there is a setup at K > System Settings > Printing
Then for scanning it should be 'ptal-init setup' on the command line.
