Just in case someone else can't boot from CD-ROM, but can read CD-ROM's, this is how I installed FC2. I mounted the first CDR on /mnt/cdrom. I then copied two files to the /boot directory and unmounted the CDR. cp -a /mnt/cdrom/isolinux/vmlinuz /boot/FC2-install cp -a /mnt/cdrom/isolinux/initrd.img /boot/FC2-install.img umount /mnt/cdrom I use grub, so I added the following lines to the bottom of /etc/grub.conf: Title Fedora Core 2 Installation root (hd0,0) kernel /FC2-install initrd /FC2-install.img When I rebooted, I selected "Fedora Core 2 Installation" from the bottom of the list. Everything went fine, although very slowly. When asked about the type of installation, I chose "Local CD ROM". Installation is progressing very slowly, but it is working out great. Thanks to Thierry Sayegh, in a May 23, 2004 post, for providing the basis for this solution. I found a couple of back posts with some good info also. It may take a while to try everything, but I'm determined to succeed. Even if I have to replace the CD-ROM drive. That's probably the least expensive way to go. Either you can update the controller BIOS to a version which know about El Torito or you connect an ATAPI CD-ROM temporary and boot from that device.
