the installer detects my video card properly, but then detects

i tried starting the installer with the line "linux acpi=off apm=off"
because having those on have caused problems with starting X causing
the monitor to lose signal.
any ideas? thanks for the help.
Don't leave "unknown monitor" selected. Browse the vendor choices,
and expand the correct one then choose your monitor. Then click next...
I am not much of a specialist but have you tried installing linux in
text mode? I had problems with my grafics card and installing Linux in
text mode solved the problem
