i have an IBM X330 which has run well with a single CPU and FC2 for a while now. i recently acquired a second PIII for it and am having no luck getting it to work with the SMP kernel. the kernels i've been using are: $ rpm -q kernel kernel-2.6.6-1.435 $ rpm -q kernel-smp kernel-smp-2.6.6-1.435 the CPUs are a pair of 1266MHz PIIIs, both of the same stepping, and both pass the built in CPU diagnostics w/o trouble. with both CPUs installed, the non-SMP kernels boot and run just fine. when i try to bring the SMP kernel up, it starts but after it reports using cfq io scheduler it then starts having problems with the IDE CD-ROM driver (all the hard drives are SCSI drives on a RAID controller): ide0 at 0x1f0-01f7, 03f6 on irq 14 ide-cd: cmd 0x5a timed out hda: lost interrupt it spends some time retrying; i've not attempted to wait it out to see what happens over time. i've rooted around a bit with google and on the list archives at marc.theaimsgroup.com without finding anything on this issue. anyone have any suggestions what to do next? thanks, richard -- Richard Welty rwelty@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Averill Park Networking 518-573-7592 Java, PHP, PostgreSQL, Unix, Linux, IP Network Engineering, Security
