try this:

# cdrecord -scanbus dev=ATA:

then edit /etc/cdrecord.conf and change the ATA:1,0,0 to whatever scanbus detects and you never have to specify the device again.

# drive name	device	speed	fifosize driveropts
#
cdrom=		ATA:1,0,0	-1	-1	burnfree
