No-one seems to have replied, so...

It looks as though this object is a kernel module. It's definitely
non-trivial to port a 2.4 module to 2.6: you need to know about lots of
changes to the way the kernel works, and modify the programming of the
module to suit.

This link (http://lwn.net/Articles/driver-porting/) should be enough to
convince you that you would need to be a kernel programmer to get
started.
