In /boot/grub/grub.conf make sure that the line for default specifies the new kernel. Counting begins with '0'. default=0 Setting the timeout to 0 is likely making the ability to see that there is a newer unselected kernel 'invisible'. Set it to a short non zero time. timeout=10 yum updates apparently to switch to the latest, up2date on FC2 keeps the last one active. -- T o m M i t c h e l l /dev/null the ultimate in secure storage.
