When I try to boot my shiny new system, all I get is (the last two lines):

Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.
audit(1087751636.705:0): initialized

Thats all. After that, the machine just hangs. This happens with the SMP
kernel also.

Restart your system. If grub-boot-manager appears, select the entry, which you would like to boot and press "e"-Button to edit it. Remove the "quiet option". Kernel will now boot in "verbose-mode".
