I'm trying to install either Core 1 or 2 on a Dell Inspiron 3200
laptop.

Everything goes fine until it tries to install files off the CD. This is the error:

(4)hdc: ATAPI 24X CD-Rom drive, 128kB Cache, DMA
(6)Uniform CD-ROM drive revision 3.12
(4)hdc: DMA interrupt recovery
(3)hdc: lost interrupt
(4)Interleaved files not (yet) supported.
(4)File unit size !=0 for ISO file (75776)
(4)hdc: status error: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete
DataRequest }
(4)hdc: status error: error=0x00
(3)hdc: drive not ready for command

I get the same error in Core 1 and 2, Mandrake 9.1 and 10, Suse 9.1,
Knoppix 3.4.

The system and CD work fine for RedHat 9 and knoppiz 3.3 so its
clearly a driver issue.

Is there a way around this problem?

Others have encountered the same issue, but I haven't seen any
resolution.

I had this problem with discs burned off of an RHL 8.0 distribution. I got these errors and never did get around to making RHL 9 discs. I just up2dated the distro through RHN network.

If you are running RHL 8 and trying to burn the CD's, maybe ftp transferring the isos to one of your other distros for the burn might be a way to get decent burns.

I diagnosed this bug as related to interruptions during the burning process causing the interruptions and error messages to be part of the resulting CDRs burned.

You might want to stop magicdev, fam and any other program which could interfere with the burning process.

It sounds familiar but might be something else for you.
