Sadly not. One thing that sometimes works is to hook up a serial console. Sometimes the oops makes it to the serial console even if it doesn't make it to the disk.
The 2.6.6... kernel that I tried freezes my computer with xscreensaver.
I would say that if you're not having trouble with the 2.6.5 kernel, why change?
