Fedora Core #2 Menu problem

The main menu under fedora core 2 is very screwed up. I can live with
most of it but the control panel just brings up a nautilus screen of
.desktop files that have no association for them.

Does anyone have any ideas how to correct the problem?

Any ideas are welcome.
