Seems to be a known bug in 2.6.6

Can't say if it is on madwifi's or the kernel's side. Perhaps a newer
madwifi checkout would make that vanish.

But does the driver work? What does ifconfig ath0 say? If it says
anything and can display a MAC, it looks very good from the driver's
side. Next comes scripting your network init stuff.
