OK, basic question here. I need to backup a machine to a remote tape drive. Back in the day, you could use rmt or rsh. Now rsh is deprecated, and ssh is the thing. I probably can get tar over ssh to work, but I don't think it makes a lot of sense to encrypt everything (this is on my private home network). It used to be possible to select "none" as an ssh cypher, but I believe that option has been removed. IMHO that was a mistake. Anyway, any suggestions?
