I've found in the archive for (i think) this list the following message.

I've looked at the output from dmesg, and sure enough there's the same text 

eth0: Media Link Off

but then folowed by

eth0: Media Link On 100mbps half-duplex.

I don't understand why it would be 100MB but only half duplex.  Do you think 
this could indicate a problem.  (I've included everything dmesg had on eth0)
