MGA 550 or higher work with the XFree drivers (they don't need the
Matrox hal library anymore)

Currently, Gnome does much a better job with xinerama and Matrox als
KDE.


I agree with you about the Matrox (I have a G550 dual head configuration
on an older machine here, OpenOffice crashes on it).

On the other hand: I didn't even succeed to compile the Nvidia driver
for my brand new x86_64 machine and Fedora core 2 test. The driver
depends on a header file, which seems not to be at the place the driver
expects it anymore.

A little bit tricky with dual head configuration, currently.
