Then you are doing something wrong. Indeed it is an odd permissions
setting.

Looks for me that imap is running.
But what is the problem with that entry? It does no harm, it does not
interfere with POP3 access. About what are you complaining? It is only a
problem if you delete the entry. But that is clearly stated in the
message.
The only thing you will have to check is whether something is requesting
for wrong permissions of /var/spool/mail.
