ThinkPads are pricey, but well worth it IMHO. Except for the on-board modem, my IBM T40 looks fine (I haven't tested extensively tough). I use ndiswrapper for the wireless card. Apparently IBM has a driver for the modem, but since I don't use it I haven't tried it yet.
