Did you try: echo "this is a printer test" | lpr -PHP5SI or lpstat -a to show all printers available otherwise, ghostscript could be broken, hey? perhaps it's printing for root because it will print text files but if ghostscript is broken! Which test did you print? Try printer other types of file under the test in the printer setup applet. Ghostscript filters may not be working.
