In fact, the *pwing* *pwing* thing is happening again :-) I just played an mp3 in xmms (using xmms-mp3) and was sending messages to myself in GAIM to test, and not hearing the messages but then when xmms stopped, i heard all the sounds for the messages. I'm curious, since you also have an 8x0 audio, please run amixer on the shell on your Shuttle board...
