As other indicated "setenv" is a "csh" (the C shell) built in.
If you are running "bash" as your shell, scan the bash man page
for environment, '=', 'env' and 'export'.

    # User specific environment and startup programs
    PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin
    export PATH
    COOLWORD=wintergreen
    export COOLWORD
    export COLDSTUFF=icecream

See also "tcsh".
