Ok, let me preface this by saying I've used Linux since 1993, so I'm no newbie. But setting up a printer is driving me insane.
Have you looked here for help? http://www.linuxprinting.org
Please help. Why is it so difficult?
Very, very good question.
(Out of the 4 printers I've set up using CUPS, only one was straightforward and as simple as it should be: an old HP 4ml I tried out of desperation.)
Though it is unlikely to help get your printer working, this is worth a read to restore your sanity [at least it did mine] : http://www.catb.org/~esr/writings/cups-horror.html
And so is the follow up piece: http://www.catb.org/~esr/writings/luxury-part-deux.html
