Not so much a case of offending more a case of helping you to get an answer. To anyone using threading your post pops up in the middle of a thread. Worse if the user has a mail reader that allows threads to be contracted and the thread you chose to "Hijack" is not one he is interested in he will only then see the first posting of that thread and never see your post.
