Where you need to be is on the test list if you are working on Fedora Core 2 test 1 (FC2test1).

There is all sorts of info re; the mouse setup with the 2.6 kernels. The short answer is that the mice are being set up to point to /dev/input/mice in /etc/X11/XF86Config. See this link for a sample of what has been discussed on the list:
