kdbg problem starting gdb

At work we need a GUI debugger for G++.  DDD seems to
crash inordinately, so I've been looking at kdbg.  In RedHat 8.0
it seems to run OK, but in Fedora-1, when I try to load an executable,
it comes back with a "Sorry-KDbg" message that says:
gdb: Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/libthread_db.so.1",
and gdb does not start.  Anybody know how to resolve this?
