Working always as superuser (call it root or Administrator) is one of
the big bad issues in the Windows[tm] world which makes it so easy for
viruses and worms to infect the system and do all harm we unfortunately
know about.

Do what Mitch told you! root is an administrative account and only for
that.

If you want settings for all new users set, then copy files to /etc/skel
or edit those already in that directory.
