What file system do you use? Ext2 and Ext3 have a limit at about 2 GB.
Some other file systems can handle larger files.

BjÃrn,
what is the source of that "knowledge"?
Actually I have no that big file on any of my Fedora machines, but even
on my old RH7.2 system with ext3 filesystem I had no problem with a
backup tarball > 2GB size.
I've read that several times in different places. One of them may have
been "Best of tech support" in Linux Journal. Other that that I don't
remember. If it's wrong it must be a rumour that's floating around.
I think only Ext2 was mentioned in most cases, but I've also read
somewhere that Ext3 is simply Ext2 + journalling so I figured the file
size limit would be the same.
