Do you mean the VNC "service"?  Have you edited the
/etc/sysconfig/vncservers file?

Or are you trying to connect to display :0 (like MS Windows)?

Why not?

By default VNC runs the twm window manager.  Look at the ~/.vnc/xstartup
file for the section that says "Uncomment the following two lines for
normal desktop".

SSH isn't a bad solution either.
