I get this when I've restored a backup and forgotten to chmod - -R jgardner:jgardner ~jgardner Also, if I am NFS mounting my home directory, and I try to start two instances of KDE on two different machines that are sharing my home directory, I see this. Check the logfiles. You can start with /var/log/messages, but there may be a few things to check out elsewhere. I don't know where to hunt for this specific stuff.
