Probably not. The Linux driver downloads its own microcode into the HA, so you are probably OK. I have a 2940U (dang near the same thing) and have never upgraded its bios. First, is the kernel detecting the thing properly. Run "less /proc/pci" and you should see something like: Bus 0, device 13, function 0: SCSI storage controller: Adaptec AIC-7861 (rev 1). IRQ 11. Master Capable. Latency=32. Min Gnt=4.Max Lat=4. I/O at 0xd800 [0xd8ff]. Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xed800000 [0xed800fff]. The computer's BIOS is finding it, or you wouldn't have the SCSI BIOS 'not installed' message. This means the firmware on the HA didn't find your hard drive, which suggests a termination or addressing issue. To check this, reboot and go into the firmware on the HA as you boot. Unless a previous user has turned off the option, you should get a message from the BIOS at boot time indicating which key to press to get in. I think it's F1, but I'm not sure. In the firmware, you should see a menu to test hard drives. Try that. NB: The test is DESTRUCTIVE, so do NOT actually perform it! But you should get a menu of all the hard drives the HA finds. If you don't see all your hard drives, I would suspect either a termination problem or a SCSI addressing problem. I recommend you turn off auto termination and do it manually. It's very simple. The HA's manual should tell you how to do it. > > How ?
