It is my principal analytic platform. I run R under ESS (Emacs Speaks Statistics), which enables R to run as a process within X/Emacs. It supports syntax highlighting, tab completion and other very efficient functionality. While the primary interaction mechanism is CLI, there are GUI's available for R, which include John Fox' RCmdr. John has done this in tcl/tk to make it portable across OSs. There is great support for R via e-mail lists, there is online documentation, FAQs and an increasing number of published books available for it to assist with learning. HTH, Marc Schwartz
