I haven't done extensive testing to see if it messed anything else up
(like the laundry list of items that depend on ghostscript) but I was
finally able to get gsview to install.  I took both ghostscript and
gsview RPMs from this project:
http://kde-redhat.sf.net/
Evidently the KDE version enables libgs.so so that gsview can run.
The great thing about gsview is that it's more than just a way to view
postscript and pdf files.  You can use a gui to convert postscript and
PDF files into many different formats that might be necessary for
importing into other programs.
Again, not thoroughly tested, but seems to work just fine.  Besides
using gsview to convert some things I also created a PDF with ooffice.
