Clueless about Yum?

I probably am, but here's the situation anyway. My auto-yum-update pulled down kernel 2174 without trouble. However all attempts to use yum to update kernel-module-alsa have failed. I uninstalled the 2166 version manually before the below dialog.

# rpm -q kernel-module-alsa
package kernel-module-alsa is not installed
# yum list | grep kernel-module-alsa.\*2174
kernel-module-alsa-2.4.22-1.2174.nptlsmpi686 1.0.2-0.fdr.5.c.1 fedora-us-stable
# yum install kernel-module-alsa-2.4.22-1.2174.nptlsmpi686

So, what am I doing wrong?
