If you want to be more specialize about iptables, read tutorial and manuals, is not all there but you can do a lot with that information
Then, learne about the DoS attacks and with your knowledge about iptables you can understand how the atacks works, how can i construct and iptable and setup a good firewall
Another way can very very difficult without knowledge of the iptables
