Two known bugs with aRts (KDE's sound server) 1. If you're running with ALSA, don't let it "autodetect" the sound system; specifically tell it to use ALSA, because aRts doesn't play nice with ALSA's OSS emulation layer. http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73461 2. There are problems playing some audio files using aRts if you haven't installed "mpeglib" -- which, again, the Fedora RPMs don't have enabled. You can enable mpeg by changing a couple of parameters in the .spec files of the SRPMS (and using the real kdemultimedia source tarball instead of the one in the SRPM). Without this, playing (e.g.) .ogg files has a tendency to be bad in aRts. http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61737 MEF -- __ Mary Ellen Foster __ http://www.iccs.informatics.ed.ac.uk/~mef/ __ "What, do you want to tempt the wrath of the ... whatever, from high atop the thing?"
