I upgraded my RedHat 7.3 system to Fedore Core 1.0. A bunch of the
X and gnome RPMs were not installed; I had to manually remove the older
versions and install the new ones from the CD. But at this point all of the
XFree86-* and gnome-* RPMs on the install CDs are installed on my system.
The problem: no text on anything - menus, etc. Scripts complain about
xft-cache not being found. Xterm looks fine, but nothing else has
fonts. Font server is running. Font packages installed. I also
get complaints that X doesn't have locale capability, or understand
my locale setting (which was set by Anaconda to en-US.UTF-8, which is what
I want since I use Unicode text extensively).
That the little icon strip at the bottom of the Fedora CORE window
only makes it about halfway across; the last icon is a globe with an arrow,
presumably localization stuff.
Any help would be appreciated. Here's the output of gnome-session.
(I know I'm missing rpm.py, but I think the problems go beyond that.)
