Ben, thanks for the rapid response! What a nice welcome to the Fedora mailing lists!!! :D Anyhow, it appears that pango was the culprit. I didn't remember seeing gdm as an updated package in the most recent update I did (which was probably 2 or 3 days ago), but I DID remember seeing pango. Anyhow, I checked the version of my existing gdm package, and it was 2.4.4.5-1. SO I figured I would install the newer version to see if it would solve the problem. Nope! But what I got was a statement that said that it required pango libraries which it couldn't find. So putting 2 + 2 together, I figured pango was the problem, reinstalled the RPM from the CD, like Ben suggested for gdm, reboot, and voila! Everything was back to normal. So, now I am updating again (possibly stupidly) and will post the results. Thanks again, Ben, for the quick reply and the troubleshooting direction! -Charlie -----Original Message----- From: fedora-list-admin@xxxxxxxxxx [mailto:fedora-list-admin@xxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Ben Stringer Sent: Wednesday, February 11, 2004 6:59 PM To: Fedora List Subject: Re: GDM issues.... So my questions are these: 1) where can I > look to see what packages were recently installed? 2) Is there a way > to back out those packages without reloading the whole system? 3) Has > anyone seen this before? > Hi Charlie, A GDM update was released yesterday(ish) with details in the release notes that may explain the problem you are seeing. The announcement is here: http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-announce-list/2004-February/msg000 10.html If this does not resolve the problem, you should be able backout the gdm update by re-installing the gdm rpm on your Fedora media. You need to tell rpm that it is okay to install and older version of gdm. Have a look at "man rpm" for the full picture.
