I am using something like this:
ffmpeg -vd /dev/video0 -tvstd NTSC -g 5 -r 5 -b 128 -s cif http://localhost:8090/feed1.ffm
and adding >/dev/null 2>&1 & will make it not stream but only 4096 bytes when it is starting...
