You should put all mozilla plugins in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins. This way you don't have to mess with them when you upgrade and they get used by both Mozilla and firefoxHmmm.
As with most of my third-party software, I just download it, compile it, and install it.
Fortunately Firefox is already compiled and ready to go. I downloaded firefox-0.8-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz (since I don't like the fonts on the other version), uncompressed it, untarred it, put the appropriate entries on my menu, and I was good to go.
I made the link from /usr/java/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so to the plugin directory under firefox (firefox/plugins) for java. I made the link for the flash plugin. I added the gxine plugin. Everything is fine and working.
It's my default browser. I use Evolution for my mail client, and one of these days I'll do the hack to Firefox that allows it to call external mail programs for the mailto: protocol.
All in all, a pretty painless operation.
/mde/ just my two cents . . . .
I rebuilt and installed the src.rpm from http://bugzilla.fedora.us/show_bug.cgi?id1272 and everything is smooth so far. I haven't tried to install an extension yet. That was a problem with the old firebird rpm.
