maybe you would have more joy using alsa and oss emulation? or is alsa standard on fedora now. I dont know because I went for http://www-ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/ straight away...it is great!!

Do you think removing /dev/mixer1 and maybe /dev/dsp1 would fix this?
Would it be safe to delete these two devices considering I have only one
sound card?
