Yes, but if the problem is keeping your systems time synced in a manual
way then rdate will do just that.

If your chosen server offers time service and has that port open.

With less precision, I think.

And off-topic for this thread, most importantly. Robert wants ntpdate-equiv functionality from NTPD not from rdate.
