If that doesn't work you could try setting minpoll to a very low > number. but the "iburst" option, as useful as it might be, is meant to be placed in the config file /etc/ntp.conf. i was looking for an explicit command-line option so that i could sync the system time *without* having to mess with the config file first. as deprecated as "ntpdate" might be, it at least had the virtue of being self-contained. rday
